Civic Video Cronulla has been owned and operated by the current owner since 2005.  Initially, it was operated from a Mall position but was relocated to the new Council owned Cronulla Central Plaza in January 2010.  This new Plaza is bordered by Cronulla’s main carpark to the South, Croydon Street to the West and runs through to join the Cronulla Mall at its Northern end.  The tenants in this Plaza include a major supermarket, a butcher, a bakery, a coffee shop, a delicatessen and a real estate office to name just a few of the tenancies.  The new Library and Council offices are housed above this Plaza and several additional meeting rooms are used for meditation, fitness and private function hire.  This level also leads into Cronulla Mall.

The franchise operates 7 days a week 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  Friday and Saturday it is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.  It is currently owned and staffed by one lady owner (25-30 hrs/wk) plus 6 casual staff ranging in age from 17 to 30.  All of the staff have been with the store between 3 and 6 years and are all capable of sole charge operation at any given time.

Cronulla is located approximately 26 km south of Sydney Central in the Sutherland Shire and some 16,000 (2006) dwellers call Cronulla home. It supports a number of primary and secondary schools: Cronulla High School, De La Salle College, Our Lady of Mercy College, Cronulla Public School, South Cronulla Public School, St Francis De Sales, Burraneer Bay Public School and St Aloysius Catholic Primary School.

The Sutherland Shire Council is very active in it’s promotion of the Cronulla region with functions and activities which coincide with Australia Day, Easter week, Anzac Day, school holiday programmes, Christmas (including the popular photos with Santa) and several music festivals.   It is well known in the region for its Spring Carnival in September (which brings visitors from all over NSW) and the Jazz & Shiraz wine and cheese festival.

Notable celebrities who are now or have had long associations with Cronulla include Lara Bingle (model), Matt Corby (Australian Idol), Daniel MacPherson, Myles Pollard, Cheyenne Tozzi, Sharni Vinson (actors), Ricky Ponting and Glen McGrath (cricket).  It is also home to the Sharks Rugby League team.

With the store relocation in January 2010, $75,000 was spent on the new fit-out ensuring the store will be up to date for the next 10 years of operation.  The large library of DVD and BluRay titles in the store ensures complete customer satisfaction.  The business could either be run by a single owner with casual staff as at present, or by a couple (common in DVD stores), with minimal assistance from staff.  This would increase profits further.

Civic Video is an Australian owned company with 280 franchised stores operating throughout Australia and New Zealand.  It provides complete industry training for new franchisees (who are subject to an approval process).  Professional assistance is given with all product buying through monthly meetings conducted by Civic Head Office staff.  Conference participation (in exotic locations) and marketing assistance are all a part of the franchise.  Twice yearly retail sales in May-June and November-December compliment rental sales.
